Latest News - 21st July

Last Sunday we said goodbye to Tim and Kate, Rebekah and Anna.  They are now settling into their new home in Northwood and we have the opportunity to join with them for Tim’s Institution and Induction at 8pm on Tuesday 5th September.  At the moment we know of a handful of people wanting to go, so probably won’t book a coach, but that could all change if you SIGN UP this weekend!  You can do so either at the InfoHub on Sunday or via email to the church office.  Early next week we will make a decision as to whether a coach is viable and let you know details in due course.

Also, this Sunday is the very last time to contribute towards Tim’s leaving gift if you still want to!

Guardians of Ancora

This week the Guardians of Ancora take over Christ Church.  Yes it’s our fantastic holiday club for children aged 5 to 11 years and will include fun and games, arts and crafts, singing, Bible stories, snacks, prizes and GUNGE!  It runs every day (24th-28th July) from 9:30am to 1pm and it’s not too late to book in.  You can do so online and the cost is just £15 per child for the whole week.

Because of the holiday club, The Spire Coffee Shop will be closed from 24th to 28th July and the Mid-week Gathering will be held in the Crypt on Wednesday 26th.

Going to New Wine?

42 adults and 25 kids from Christ Church are going to New Wine next Weekend.  Please do pray for us – especially for good weather.  If you are coming for the day, please email Mark Parsons with details, including which day you are coming.  We are camping on Gold 5 and would love to make you feel welcome.  If you are thinking of coming for the day and don’t yet have tickets, do check the New Wine website first as Week 2 is filling up fast and there are no day tickets in the kids groups (5-13 yrs) available now.

A Curate’s first visit to the PCC

The PCC met last Saturday so we asked Neil Shepherd, our new Curate, to share his thoughts…

Last Saturday I attended my first PCC at Christ Church. The agenda was full of a wide variety of topics and tasks in the life of the church to be discussed. We had topics that included vision and strategy, team and staffing, reports from General Synod, finance and more. There is much to be thankful for as we look to all that God is doing in the life of Christ Church and the team of people who gather to meet and discuss these issues in the life of the church.

One area that stood out most for me, in my first PCC meeting, was the amount of prayer and Bible that was included in this meeting. It is so easy to move straight into the business items and to try and get through the agenda as efficiently as possible. The PCC meeting started with a Bible reading and prayer, this was followed by four agenda items which each had space for prayer and reflection. If we are going to be faithful to all that God has called us to in this next season then prayer needs to be at the heart of it. It was great to see this being modelled at the heart of the business of the church.
